Engineering Thermoplastics

High-Performance Fillers for Engineering Polymers

Overview

Engineering thermoplastics such as polyamide (PA), polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and polycarbonate (PC) demand consistent, high-quality mineral fillers with tight particle size control and clean chemistry. Raviraj Minerals provides ultra-fine, surface-treated talc and calcium carbonate that enhance the structural and thermal performance of filled engineering polymers.

Talc Powder

Ultra-fine talc is the reference mineral filler for demanding engineering thermoplastic applications. In filled polypropylene compounds, talc significantly improves stiffness, HDT (Heat Deflection Temperature), and dimensional stability, enabling the replacement of more expensive engineering polymers in structural applications.

In polyamide (PA6/PA66) compounds, talc improves dimensional stability, reduces moisture absorption, and enhances surface quality. Our engineering-grade talc powders are available in d50 grades from 1.5 µm to 5 µm for optimum balance between reinforcement and impact performance.

  • Significantly improves stiffness and HDT in PP and polyamide compounds
  • Reduces moisture absorption and warpage in PA compounds
  • Available in ultra-fine grades (d50: 1.5 – 5 µm) for engineering applications
  • Surface-treated grades available for enhanced polymer compatibility
  • Enables PP to replace engineering polymers in structural applications

Calcium Carbonate

Surface-treated calcium carbonate is used in engineering polymer compounds as a cost-reducing extender and impact modifier. Coated CaCO₃ grades with controlled particle size and narrow size distribution improve impact strength in polymer systems when fine, well-dispersed particles are required.

  • Improves impact strength in PP impact copolymer compounds
  • Surface-treated grades ensure excellent dispersion in engineering polymers
  • Reduces compound cost while maintaining functional performance
  • Used in ABS, EPS, and HIPS formulations as an extending filler
  • Consistent quality batch-to-batch for demanding compounding applications
