Overview
The ceramics industry relies on naturally occurring minerals for body formulations, glazes, and engobes. Raviraj Minerals supplies dolomite, calcium carbonate, and talc as fluxing agents and body modifiers for the production of floor tiles, wall tiles, sanitaryware, tableware, and technical ceramics.
Dolomite Powder
Dolomite is used in ceramic tile bodies and glazes as a source of calcia (CaO) and magnesia (MgO) upon calcination. It acts as a flux that lowers the sintering temperature of ceramic bodies, reducing energy consumption and improving dimensional accuracy of fired tiles.
In glaze formulations, dolomite introduces a matte surface character and improves glaze melt fluidity, enabling the development of attractive matte and satin glaze effects popular in contemporary tile design.
- Fluxing agent that lowers ceramic body firing temperature
- Introduces CaO and MgO for controlled ceramic body chemistry
- Improves dimensional accuracy and reduces warpage in fired tiles
- Used in matte and satin glaze formulations for tiles and sanitaryware
- Reduces energy costs in ceramic production through improved sintering
Talc Powder
Talc is used in low-temperature ceramic formulations, porcelain, and steatite ceramics. It acts as a fluxing agent and provides high MgO content, contributing to excellent dielectric properties in electronic ceramics and high thermal shock resistance in technical ceramics.
- Primary raw material for steatite and cordierite technical ceramics
- Provides excellent dielectric properties in electronic substrate ceramics
- Improves thermal shock resistance of ceramic components
- Used in whitewares and sanitaryware bodies for whiteness and opacity
Calcium Carbonate
Calcium carbonate (calcite) provides CaO as a flux in ceramic body and glaze formulations. It improves glaze adhesion to the ceramic body, controls glaze thermal expansion, and contributes to the desired glossy surface in fired ceramic glazes.
- CaO provider in ceramic glazes — improves brightness and adhesion
- Controls thermal expansion of glazes to prevent crazing
- Used in earthenware and porcelain body formulations as a flux
- Available in fine grades for even distribution in ceramic slips
